Wheelchair Basketball Canada announced that the Canadian Women’s carding camp will take place from April 10-13 at the Richmond Olympic Oval in Richmond, B.C.
A total of 12 athletes will take part in the four-day camp, including eight members of the Paralympic team, which represented Canada at the 2020 Games. Captains Arinn Young (Legal, Alta.) and Cindy Ouellet (Quebec City, Que.) will be among the camp participants. The purpose of this camp is for athletes to get assessed and awarded their cards for the year. The top Canadian athletes from the national team pool receive funding through the Sport Canada Athlete Assistance Program (AAP) for the season. Athletes who receive funding through AAP are known as carded athletes. “Fresh off the Women’s National Championship Festival and last month’s development camp, the carding camp provides our athletes and coaches another opportunity to work together on player development,” said Jeff Dunbrack, Wheelchair Basketball Canada High Performance Director. “We know our athletes are coming to camp excited and motivated as we build towards finalizing our roster for the 2022 competition, including the Americas Cup and World Championships.” The athletes attending carding camp are (Athletes with Paralympic experience denoted with a *): Arinn Young (Legal, Alta.)* Kady Dandeneau (Pender Island, B.C.)* Sandrine Bérubé (Beauharnois, Que.)* Danielle DuPlessis (Fredericton, N.B.)* Cindy Ouellet (Quebec City, Que.)* Aurélie Jacob-Verreault (Lévis, Que.)
